About Our Project:
We created a vertical slice of our game for a university course, showcasing a comprehensive preview of what to expect in the full version.
Vertical Slice Long Play
Our Team: This project was brought to life by the combined efforts of Phil Meyer and Charles Qi.
Goal: VR horror game that puts you in the seat of a steam train operator.
Design Constraints
- Accessibility: Our game supports one hand only playstyle {your response}
- Localization: Our game will Support English, Chinese and Japanese
- Game Format: Our game will be delivered on both desktop and VR platform
Story: You work a tiny night train by yourself, transporting passengers from town to town. It’s very quiet, cozy, and dark. Some passengers seem normal enough, but some you have to watch out for. Recent reports have noted that some unusual events have occurred on this specific train route.
Low-Fi Gameplay Prototype
Design Questions Asked:
● How would player interactions work on the train?
● How will player movement work?
Knowledge gained:
● Needed to do research on steam train operation. Gameplay will be more complex as a result of being more realistic.
● Movement will be teleporting around. Won’t be confined to just standing in the cockpit of a train.
● Will need to implement special mechanics and 3D interactions to support design.
Low-Fi Splash Experience Prototype
Design Questions Asked:
• How can we design our splash screen that matches the theme of our game?
• How can we create the sense of immersion starting from the splash scene
Knowledge gained:
• VR Game is such a different thing to make comparing with traditional game.
• New ways to do options and menus in VR Game.
• We can make the players to feel like they are in the game already from the moment the game program starts.
